Caribbean Colombia

The Caribbean coast of Colombia is a very poor area overall, but also has some wealthy bits.
We ended up a few miles outside of Santa Marta - possibly the scruffiest town we have been to in South America - in El Rodadero, an upmarket resort area, where we stayed in an ex drug cartel boss's mansion, now a hostel.

On the other side of Santa Marta we were at Taganga, scruffy fishing town....good for fish dinners and cheaper accommodation. But a dive! Also near Tayrona National Park, very picturesque jungle and beaches.
Inland we were at Minca, pretty scruffy village in the mountains.
The whole area is unbelievably expensive considering how run down everywhere is.

The colonial town of Cartagena was our last port of call, literally, before we leave for Panama. The AT had a new pair of 'shoes' fitted - Heidenau K60 Scouts again.

It has been boiling hot up here, Dee has bought a very thin dress/shorts thing as all other clothes are too hot. We have drank loads of cold beers and ice lollies, phew! Even the sea is hot, ridiculous temperature, the hottest we have ever been in by far!
