Volcanoes and another Earthquake

This is Volcan Concepcion, an active volcano on Isla Ometepe in Lago Nicaragua. In fact the island is 2 volcanoes; the other one, Maderas, is dormant.
The road crosses the landing strip and the photo below was taken on it.

We took a ferry over - a crossing of 1.5 hours.

This one is only for foot passengers, it looked knackered!

The island is very peaceful and we stayed right on the lake. We explored the small nature reserve there, swam in spring fed pools and watched some great sunsets. All very relaxing and amazingly quiet for Latin America!

Back on the Pacific, we stayed at a village for a couple of nights. It was independence day with celebrations everywhere....except here at Las Penitas! There was a live band put on in the evening though in a bar so the whole village went there.

At midnight we were shaken by an earthquake which was longer and more shaky than our previous experience. It was a bit scary as we were thinking of tsunamis - being only a couple of steps from the sea. There were a couple more aftershocks but luckily no tsunami siren. In the morning we discovered it was a 5.4 quake very close to us but inland.
