Phil and Dee's Travels: Pyramids, a hole and an island

We left Merida and travelled a short distance to Piste, near the ruins of Chichen Itza. Having been to a lot of Mayan ruins already, we were going to skip these as they are mega busy. However, we met a Californian couple who told us the light and sound show there at night was free! We got a lift up there in the back of their pickup and went with them to see it. The story was projected onto the main pyramid - El Castillo (the castle) and was actually pretty good.

In this region there are thousands of sink holes in the limestone rock called Cenotes. Each one has deep water in it and perfect for a swim! We visited one at Ik Kil, which is open to the sky; others are like caves.

We had our first small problem with the AT. Corrosion in a connector block caused a wire to the main fuse / starter relay block to heat up and melt its housing. We cleaned the connector block and replaced the female spade connector to the relay, which had became soft and a loose fit due to the heat.

At Cancun, we had a sleepless night in a cabin on a trailer park. Not because we had to use our camping mats to cover the springs pocking through the mattress but because of an all night party outside our door.
Cancun, the resort bit, is a disgusting mass of gigantic hotels......luckily we only stayed on the edge for the night as we had a ferry to catch in the morning.
