Giants of Baja California - Cacti, a Chimney, Fish and Pebbles!

Our welcome to La Paz in Baja California was a bent cop after a bribe! We were going the wrong way down a one way street because a market was in the way - not normally a problem!

We camped in a beautiful spot in giant cacti, above. The desert scenery is lovely and what you would expect from old Wild West films.

El Triunfo is an old French silver and gold mining town. The giant 47m high chimney, named Ramona and built in 1890, was designed by Mr Eiffel.

We joined a trip on a research boat to swim with Whale Sharks. Our Panga (small boat) took us out searching for what felt like a needle in a haystack. We eventually saw their grey shadows under the water and swam with about 10 of these gentle giants!

A winding tarmac road and then a sandy track took us through Cabo Pulmo to Los Arbolitos. The small beach was a beautiful place to camp and also to snorkel along the reef just off shore. On a hike around the coast, we discovered a really interesting bay, with wind sculptored rocks and giant pebbles.
