Tequila, a closed road and a dump

The route ahead was closed where a new road was being built. We thought we had time so decided to try to get through.

The route started off a bit sandy but ok and then got worse and we didn't know which tracks to take. With time and fuel running low we reluctantly had to retrace our steps.

Earlier, our route took us through fields of Agave, which is what Tequila is made from.
We could smell the Tequila as we passed the distilleries, riding through the town of the same name.

A lorry taking a right hand bend too fast and not getting away with it!

We arrived at San Blas, on the Pacific coast for a one night stopover but the place was a dump! It was also packed for a 3 day motorbike 'event' so most rooms were booked or very expensive! It would have been interesting to see the bikes but not to pay well over the odds for a room and probably get no sleep! We decided to get out of there and luckily managed to find a much better and much cheaper place to stay just before dark.

In Mazatlan, further north on the Pacific, we found the Cliff Divers! After talking with one of them, we learnt a group turn up each day taking it in turns to dive for cash from tourists. They earn quite a bit, he said, more than the average person! Cruise ships provide a good income!

Dee was on the diving platform when he dived off, there was a routine of kissing rocks and crossing himself before going off the edge. It is dangerous as the water is shallow; there have been accidents.

A couple of lads on the beach with a loud speaker on their bike - they love their music.

And a roving band!

The view from the lighthouse, supposed to be the second highest natural lighthouse in the world. You can see a massive cruiseship...and the ferry we were booked on.

We had some clothes washed at a local laundry - washed, dried and neatly packed and only 55 pesos (£2.00)!

We caught the ferry to Baja California, a peninsular of Mexico connected to California USA. The overnight sailing was flat calm. We had a luxury cabin and our ticket included dinner too!
