Arriving into Bolivia

On the way to the Bolivian border we saw some amazing rock formations as below. The border crossing was really easy; took about 45 minutes to get in. We were in Villazon and everything was immediately different.

Leaving the town turned out to be very interesting....we found a lorry 'parked' right across the road which we managed to get past. When we found another, it dawned on us it must be a protest road blockade - of which they have many in Bolivia. Luckily, we got past, it took a while as there were around 30 trucks, often used in pairs!

After a couple of nights relaxing at a very nice hotel in Tupiza, we set off towards Uyuni. Again, we were met by a blockade! This time bushes, cactus and heaps of soil were blocking the road at various points. The protestors let us past again!
